The Later Life for Sookan
As we read so long, we know Sookan is a hard working person and she has no time to do anything else except studying to keep the scholarship. Even she refuses to be the member of the council and never go to the mixer. Although she fell down on the ground in the bathroom, she never forget her classes and worry about her family will be angry about her grade. She afraid that she will make her mother and sister to be upset about her. I think Sookan will succeed in the US. Maybe she will be back to Korea and her family will be angry. And in my opinion she will feel Bennett’s family is better than her family.
First, she will succeed in the US, because she is very hard working person. She has to keep her scholarship and she cannot study there without that. As we know, her family is not as rich as the people in that campus even her father is not in this world because of the war. Her mother should be more busy to take care of all of them. They don’t have enough money to support Sookan study in the US. Therefore, Sookan cannot lose her scholarship. By the other side, because she fell down in the bathroom, the school will change her classes. She can have more time to do her work for each class; and not like what she did before that she should wake up so early to read the book. Also, she didn’t join in the council because of the time. Now she has enough time to do it now. I think she will improve herself by working hardly in the campus and she will be successful in the latter.
Second, I think she will get back in Korea But her family won’t be very happy. Because of reading the book, we can know her sister is very controlling. She wanted to control Sookan to be the nun like what she does. And Sookan also think she has to listen to her sister. By the other hand, Sookan loves her mother, so I think she will go back and take good care of her mother when she finishes studying. However, I don’t consider her sister will welcome her because her sister think Sookan shouldn’t go to the US and she has to be the nuns. And when she returns from the US, she will think like an American. I don’t consider her sister will accept that. By this way, she will begin to think Mr. Bennett’s family is better. Because of Bennett’s family, woman is equal to man. They both can have their job and they will take the baby together. Also, the man in the home can cook. In the reading, we can see Sookan is really like the life in America. Because when she does the babysitting, she did lots of things else such as making the greenhouse to be a small garden and cutting the grass. Also, when she went to Ellen’s home, she felt happy and thanks to the handbook that Ellen’s mother gave her.
In all of these reasons, I think Sookan will be successful in the US. Then, she will be back to Korea for taking care of her mother. However, her sister won’t welcome her like she wanted. She will like Bennett’s family more.
